Gulf Winds 30K/15K

Yes, call us crazy, but Saturday at 7:30am was the Gulf Winds Track Club 30K/15K and man was it cold! It was 26 when the race started and the turn-out was amazing considering the temperatures being well below freezing. Those that did sweat had ice on their jackets and in their hair since the air was so cold, but once we all got moving, the race was a fun one.

On Centerville Road and Sunny Hills, most of the race is on unpaved road with rolling and steep hills. I ran with my friend, Robin, who just completed "Goofy" at the Disney marathon last weekend ("Goofy" is running a half marathon on Saturday then the full marathon on Sunday) so we took the race at a leisurely pace which was a great workout but we were both able to wake-up Sunday without being sore! Here is a picture of us running the last mile where the 10 different kinds of chili awaited our arrival. You don't think you want chili at 9:00am until you run 9.3 miles in 26 degree weather, but it was hot and tasty, the perfect ending to a perfect morning of running.

Hope you are all staying warm and dry in this cold, damp weather!
