Football Season is Finally Here Again!

Tail.gate \tal-gate\ verb, intransitive:
1. to participate in a picnic that is served from the tailgate of a vehicle, as before a sports event
2. eat, drink and be merry

FSU football is back which means we had to kick-off the first game with the Micklers' famous fish fry. Will and his Dad caught the grouper the week before and it was accompanied by Mr. Mickler's cheese grits, hushpuppies, baked beans, chips, cookies and, of course, a keg courtesy of Lauren and Rich! Even though it was 100 degrees in the shade and rained off and on the entire afternoon, we managed to make the most of our first tailgate which started at noon even though the game wasn't scheduled until 6pm.

It was great to have everyone together again since Maggie and Will now live in Orlando (their first FSU football season away from home) and we had a new addition, Aimee, who is Maggie's childhood friend from Georgia who drove 3 1/2 hours for her first tailgating experience. We hope she'll come back since we had great fun and she was an awesome beer pong partner! Our second round of beer pong was rained out (Aimee and I declared ourselves the winners against the two Allis even though we think we should probably have a re-match just to be sure this isn't disputed in the future!) but FSU's game wasn't rained out even though it was rain delayed twice by lightning. FSU absolutely destroyed an overmatched Western Carolina team 69-0 at Doak Campbell Stadium and sophomore quarterback Christian Ponder was 11 of 17 for 196 yards and three TDs in his first career start and the FSU defense held the Western Carolina Catamounts to just 176 yards of total offense.

Thanks again to the Mickler's for the fabulous food and Go Seminoles! Let's hope next week the weather cooperates and we win just as big.
