Happy Easter!

Saturday was Easter egg dying day at our house. The childhood craft is still something I enjoy doing and this year was no different.

Easter eggs are specially decorated to celebrate the Easter holiday and supposedly, the egg was a symbol of the rebirth of the earth in Pagan celebrations of Spring. The ritual was adopted by early Christians as a symbol of the rebirth at Easter of Jesus.

The oldest tradition is to dye or paint chicken eggs, but the modern custom is to fill plastic eggs with candy such as jelly beans or give chocolate eggs instead. Put in a basket with plastic "grass", the eggs resemble being in a nest, all part of the rebirth symbolism.

I like the basic tradition of dying chicken eggs different solid colors, although every year I say I'm going to branch out and make marbled eggs or eggs with some sort of decoration on them, but it hasn't happened yet. My beautiful pink eggs were my pride and joy this year even though Dan, Chance and Duke were not as impressed with them as I was! We hope everyone enjoyed their Easter Sunday.
