Finally, the 25k race in Torreya State Park happened after being cancelled once due to flooding from Spring storms. Even though it's been raining off and on for the past few weeks, the race took place, starting at 7:30am. Cathy, Robin and I did the 25k together while Chuck and Sterling took off and finished second and third in their age group! The girls managed to complete the race in 4 hours (shaving off 30 minutes from our time during our last training run at Torreya) despite the muddy, humid conditions and newly fallen trees we had to climb over during the 15.5 miles of trails. The bugs were out in full force as well, but overall, the race was very enjoyable and we had a challenging, but adventurous morning. The race was very well organized and the aide stations and water stops were fantastic, complete with high-energy, positive personnel and their children. Our personal race cheerleaders, Kay and Diana, were on the trail at a couple points to encourage us and take pictures. It really does make a difference to have fellow runners come along just to cheer you on and be there afterwards to celebrate, so thank you to both of them for being such good friends to us.
Even though the race was tougher than I think we anticipated, we would all most likely do it again next year. Maybe we'll even try the 50k next time?!?!

(Shelby & Robin at the finish looking a little ragged but accomplished!)
