While Dan was slaving away on the porch, I went to Monticello for the Watermelon Festival's 5k run and annual brunch at Robin's house afterwards. Maggie came to town from Orlando to see her family, so she ran the race with me with her Mom and brother, Matthew, came as our cheering section. The run was hot and humid but still a good time for all of us, ending, of course, with freshly cut watermelon followed by delicious brunch at Robin's with more visiting with my running friends.
After the race, it was back to town to clean-up and head to the American Legion where the Habitat for Humanity fundraiser I helped organize was being set-up. The fundraiser was a dinner/dance which included a swing band, professional and amateur dancers, and even a performance by the Gangster Grannies, a group of 80 year old women from Westminster Oaks who rocked the house! The fundraiser was a success and raised enough money for a day of building in Tallahassee which was one of our goals. Dan and I even bid on and won an outdoor rug at the silent auction which will be our final addition to the porch so Dan was happy.
The weekend concluded with brunch with my Dad for Father's Day while Dan had dinner with his Dad to celebrate. It wasn't necessarily a relaxing weekend but all that we got accomplished and all the people and family we got to see made it well worth it.
