My friend April and I took a nice three day break from life in Tallahassee to Western North Carolina this weekend. The cabin we stayed in was located in Topton, NC right on Nantahala Lake. The Nantahala Lake is located in Macon County on the Wayah Ranger District. There is one public boating access area and fishing and hiking are really the two outdoor events this time of year. Fish in the lake include walleye, crappie, sunfish, trout and bass. Andrews is a beautiful, peaceful small town located about 20 minutes from Topton and where we did our grocery shopping and had dinner Saturday night (at the Cole House). Both Andrews and Topton are very small towns, 1/4 of the size of downtown Monticello or Quincy to give you perspective.
April and I had fun hiking around the lake house, venturing into Andrews, driving to the Blue Ridge Parkway to hike and loved it being cold enough to have a fire each night! Fall in North Carolina is breathtaking and the leaf colors are unbelievable. The temperature was in the upper 50s during the day and upper 30s at night, a nice change from Florida weather this time of year. We didn't want to leave but feel rejuvenated from the fresh air
and beautiful scenery.
and beautiful scenery.
