Pine Run at Tall Timbers 20K

Saturday, October 11, 2008, 7:30 AM, Tall Timbers Research Station, 20K (12.4 miles) race

This year's Pine Run took place at the Tall Timbers Research Station since the Pine Run property of old (that used to be held in Bainbridge, GA) was sold so the race can no longer be held there. Tall Timbers just happens to be celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, so there was a little more excitement in the air on race day, and it was a nice way to start a new race tradition for this annual event.

The weather was cool enough and the overcast sky added some extra relief from typical Tallahassee temperatures in October. The rain also held off which was good since trail running in the mud isn't as fun as it might sound! The property at Tall Timbers is absolutely gorgeous, fall flowers were in bloom all along the trail we were running and the hills (yes, the hills that we all complained about throughout the race, especially the big ones at mile 11 and 12) allowed views of the lake, the Beadel house and the forest from all different points on the trail. It was a tough race, but the Pine Run is always a great experience and gets us all back to nature for a few hours while running which we love.

All race participants were welcome to tour the property and visit the Beadel House (pictured to the right), which long ago was home to Henry Beadel, the man who made it all happen by leaving his entire estate to be used as an ecological research station. For more information on Tall Timbers, visit their web site at http://www.talltimbers.org/. It really is an incredible place so take some time to visit it if you have some free time one weekend.
